Virtual Reality 4 Teens (ages 13-16)

from £265Per Child

This course is currently unavailable. For information on our active Workshop courses, please visit this page: Spark4kids’ Workshop Courses

The Virtual Reality 4 Teens course will have attendees designing their very own virtual reality experience, using a combination of C# coding and the industry-standard Unity 3D engine.

Starting with learning how to create realistic-looking 3D environments from a selection of pre-created assets, to programming exciting features such as movement, animations, effects and explosions, this unique course for older children and young teenagers covers the entire process of creating a virtual reality experience to enjoy – we provide all the VR kit and software required.

Kids aged 13-16 of all abilities are welcome, from beginners (who have never written a line of code) all the way through to kids who have prior coding experience. Those who have attended this workshop in the past can attend again if they enjoyed it the last time: we tailor the coding challenges to build upon topics covered in previous sessions (please indicate previous attendance in booking notes).

This is an all-inclusive workshop, with Spark4Kids providing everything from the software and hardware that attendees will use to lunch and healthy snacks.

Activities

On this workshop, attendees will learn the basics of developing virtual reality experiences, including but not limited to:

  • Designing Virtual Reality experiences
  • Virtual Reality coding principles
  • Setting up VR projects
  • Coding in C#/Unity 3D
  • Transformations and Animations
  • Lighting the 3D world
  • Incorporating Sounds

Attendees who progress quickly will be able to tailor their experiences further, incorporating additional elements of personal interest into the experience, and adding the little touches that will make their VR projects their own.

The workshop is designed to keep attendees engaged throughout the day. There will be sufficient breaks to ensure that attendees spend some time away from the computer and weather permitting, there will also be breaks outdoors.

The focus is on creating a fun and supportive environment in which attendees learn about various aspects of developing for virtual reality.

Workshop Hours

The standard workshop hours are 10am to 4pm and attendees should arrive just before 10am, with the workshop ending at 4pm.

Where the Extended Day option is available for booking, attendees can arrive from 8:30am onwards, with the workshop day ending at 5pm. There is an additional £10 per day per attendee for this option, which is available for selection during the booking process.

Please note that the “Extended Day” option is currently not available on all workshops.

Food and Snack Breaks

Attendees on all-day workshops will be offered lunch. Attendees may also bring in a packed lunch if they have special dietary requirements. Healthy snacks and refreshments will be available throughout the day.

Attendees booked on the Extended Day option (not available on all workshops) will be offered breakfast on arrival.

Each workshop day will be punctuated with breaks to ensure that attendees take time away from computers/computer coding. Short walks and trips outdoors will be taken, however this will be dependent on the weather.
