Our Taster Sessions are a great way to experience what it’s like to learn computer coding with Spark4Kids. Most of the children who come to us have little or no coding experience, and so we offer the option for children to try out coding before deciding whether or not to commit to the rest of the term.
Note:
- Taster Sessions are only available for term-time courses, please provide details of any preference in the Leaner Notes.
- By booking a Taster Session, you are opting to attend the very next available session (see “Session Day Time” in the booking form below). If you would like to book a Taster Session for a future date (other than the next session), do get in touch (see “Contact Us” above) with your preferred date for a Taster Session.
Term Dates
Our Summer Term 2023 Online & In-Person sessions start the weekend of Saturday 29th April and will run until Saturday 15th July 2023 (inclusive).
Please make note of the following weekends, when there will be no coding sessions:
- Saturday 3rd June – Half-Term
- Saturday 1st July – No Session
For our In-person classes we are based at James Allen’s Girls’ School (JAGS), which has multiple points of access. The entrance to Spark4Kids at JAGS is Green Dale, off 144 East Dulwich Grove, LONDON, SE22 8TE. The Green Dale entrance leads to our new location within the JAGS campus – the 6th Form block.
Taster Session Format
The Taster Session runs for just under an hour, and generally, we advise that parents drop off/leave their children and pick them at the end of the session. Of course, for those children who might take a little longer to get used to new surroundings, parents are welcome to stay as long as is required.
During the Taster Session, we will evaluate the child’s ability with a view to making a recommendation regarding which course they might want to consider. Of course, if the child (or parent) has their own views on what course they want to attend, we will do our best to accommodate or suggest a path towards being able to eventually take the preferred course.
Registering for a Taster Session
Once you register for a Taster Session, you will be sent information about the session including how to get to the centre, what to do when you get there, as well as information on what to expect during the session.
With Spark4Kids, each child is assigned their own computer (which we provide), and using a combination of interactive audio-visual material and course ware, completes the Spark4Kids challenges in their own time. You do not need to bring anything to the Taster Session, all equipment will be provided.
Note that we allocate just a few spaces for In-Person Taster Sessions each week, so do book early to avoid disappointment.
We look forward to seeing you at computer coding!
Starting After Term Has Begun
With Spark4Kids, there is no such thing as a late start – your child can start with us any week during the term.
Our courses are designed to allow children to learn at their own pace, meaning that your child can join us after the term has started and not miss out.
The earlier you book your child on a course though, the more likely you are to obtain a space.
Pro Rata Term Fees
Children who register after the start of the term (or after a Taster Session) will have their fees calculated on a pro rata basis. The fee is dependent on each child’s individual start date, and will be automatically calculated during the booking process.
Childcare Vouchers
Spark4Kids accepts childcare vouchers as fee payment towards all of our courses from a variety of childcare voucher providers.
A full list is available here: Spark4Kids Childcare Providers
To pay for a course using childcare vouchers, select the course you want, add to basket, and then proceed to Checkout by clicking “View Basket” (you may need access to your email account). When at Checkout, choose “Pay with Childcare Vouchers” as the payment option, and follow the on-screen prompts to complete your booking (you will soon be emailed the voucher payment details for Spark4Kids in order to complete the payment.
We can also accept a fee payment that is split between a childcare voucher payment and a standard debit/credit card payment (e.g. if your remaining childcare voucher balance isn’t enough to cover the course fee).
